Our client, Assemble, is a leading political and public affairs firm that partners with companies, coalitions, and associations across financial services, energy, sports and entertainment, technology, and healthcare.
Role
We are seeking a Vice President or Senior Vice President to join our Corporate & Issue Advocacy sector. This role is designed for an experienced strategist who can balance high-level client management with hands-on execution. The VP/SVP will oversee client relationships, manage projects, guide internal teams, and present confidently to senior stakeholders. They will play a key role in resource allocation, budget oversight, and team development, while also identifying opportunities to expand client engagements and develop new service offerings. Senior-level candidates will additionally provide strategic leadership across the sector, mentor and manage staff, and drive business development pitches and initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, anticipates challenges before they arise, and consistently delivers strategic, innovative solutions.
Primary responsibilities include:
Client Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a senior point of contact for clients, managing relationships and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Translate client objectives into actionable strategies and oversee execution across teams.
- Lead client presentations, strategy sessions, and reporting.
- Proactively identify opportunities to deepen client engagements and increase revenue through new initiatives, forecasts, and planning.
Project & Team Management
- Manage day-to-day execution of client projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
- Oversee and mentor deputy directors, associates, and junior team members, providing guidance and professional development.
- Allocate resources effectively across projects and service teams to maximize efficiency and impact.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work seamlessly with internal service teams—creative, paid media, digital advocacy, and communications—to deliver integrated campaigns.
- Partner with external collaborators, including state lobby teams, PR agencies, and coalition partners, to advance client priorities.
Budget Oversight & Resource Planning
- Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and accurate reporting to clients.
- Anticipate future needs and help design systems to scale client work effectively.
Content & Communications
- Oversee the development of client-facing materials including memos, reports, decks, and strategic communications.
- Provide input and leadership on messaging, campaign strategies, and rapid response efforts.
Business Development & Innovation
- Identify opportunities for new business with existing clients and help secure new partnerships.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop new products, services, and processes that strengthen Assemble’s sector offerings.
Desired Skills And Experience
For VP:
- 7–10 years of professional experience in public affairs, issue advocacy, communications, or digital strategy.
For SVP:
- 10–15 years of professional experience in public affairs, issue advocacy, communications, or digital strategy.
- Proven track record developing new business and growing client relationships at a senior level.
All levels:
- Strong track record managing client relationships and delivering measurable results.
- Proven ability to lead integrated campaigns across digital, communications, and advocacy platforms.
- Experience with budget management, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring and managing teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and client-facing skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term planning with rapid response execution.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-stakes environments, with flexibility to be available for urgent client needs.
Annual salary will be determined individually based on experience. The anticipated range for this role is $120,000 – $185,000, plus a discretionary bonus and full benefits, including 100% company-paid health insurance, 401K match, flexible PTO, etc.
